These tiles were commissioned by Penland School of Craft and were made during a three month residency at the Arts/Industry program in Kohler, Wisconsin. I had lots of help from, among other people, Daniel T. Beck, Andrew Hayes, and Mark Warren. The finished tiles, all four hundred square feet of them, will soon be installed in the new Core Fellows house at Penland, where they will function as thermal mass as part of the building's passive solar design. You can see more images of the project, origins of the design, and much more on this blog.
